“Yandex.Taxi” launched testing of unmanned vehicles in the Kazan city-university Innopolis. Two Toyota Prius will start to run along the test route, each of them will have an engineer sitting in the passenger seat.

The pilotless vehicle will run between five addresses: the medical center, the administrative and business center named after Popov, the stadium, ‘Zion’ living complex and the university itself. Taxi can not be ordered through the application–you need to contact a special Telegram-bot, available to local residents. Since 2015, the messenger has registered most of the city’s residents. The company noted that the testing will be conducted within the framework of an agreement with the authorities of Innopolis and the Republic of Tatarstan.

The trip on the drone is free, however there are only three places inside: the front passenger seat will be occupied by the Yandex engineer to control the system. Only adults of Innopolis who have agreed to take part in the testing will be able to book a taxi. In “Yandex” they asked users to cooperate and call a taxi together to reduce waiting time.

Publicly the Yandex drones were shown when Vladimir Putin came to the Moscow office of the company. Another test was held in November 2017 on the snow-covered road near Moscow. In February 2018, an unmanned taxi was tested on the streets of Moscow.
