We are preparing for the first major event in the smartphone market in 2020.

January 4, Samsung sent reporters invitations to the annual presentation in San Francisco on February 11. Media and technology bloggers expect three flagship models, the top model with four cameras, as well as the second version of the Galaxy Fold with a bend across and beyond.

The new Galaxy S20, this time with four cameras at the back

According to the latest XDA-Developers leaks, Samsung’s flagship line will be called the S20. It seems that the company decided to surpass the naming of competitors and immediately jumped to 10 digits in the model name, although earlier it assigned numbers in turn. Some attributed this to the onset of 2020.

According to insiders, this year Samsung also changed the approach to naming models in the line. Unlike previous generations, the Galaxy S20 + will become an average model, the base model will lose the “e” prefix and become just the Galaxy S20, and the high-end device will receive the Ultra prefix.

Similarly, in 2019, the arrangement of models in the iPhone 11 line changed. The former version of the XR became the main one, and the “older” devices received the Pro and Pro Max.

Judging by the known information, the new Samsung devices will differ primarily in cameras and screens. The S20 Ultra will receive a 6.9-inch display, the S20 + will be equipped with a 6.7-inch screen, and the base S20 with a 6.2-inch.

At the same time, the top model will be the only one in the line that will receive the ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor with a resolution of 108 megapixels — it was introduced back in August, but so far only Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha in a limited series has been released with it. The middle and junior devices will receive only 12-megapixel cameras as the main ones, but with increased pixel sizes up to 1.8 micrometers: this will allow them to capture more light.

Insiders also announced the availability of a separate telephoto sensor with a five-fold increase and a resolution of 48 megapixels for all models and a hybrid ten-fold zoom in the S20 Ultra. According to rumors, a periscope camera arrangement is used for this: this approach has already been used by Huawei in the flagship 2019 P30 Pro.

In addition to the main sensor, ultra-wide-angle lens, telephoto lens and flash, the module seems to place a microphone: this will improve the sound quality during video recording and add an audio zoom function. In addition, insiders expect a macro lens to become one of the cameras.

Samsung has also redesigned the rear camera position compared to last year’s models. If earlier they were arranged in a row across, now the module with cameras is similar to the layout in Pixel 4 or iPhone 11.

According to the first images, smartphones will lose the button to call the Bixby voice assistant, who did not work in Russia. The front of the devices has also changed: the display has become less “bent” around the edges, in leaks it is called “flat”, as in the Pixel 2 XL and it is noted that Samsung switched to 2.5D glass.

In addition, the hole for the selfie camera, where in the past generation there were two sensors, now contains only one camera and is located in the center at the top of the smartphone. Like all previous models, the Galaxy S20 will ship with pre-installed screen protectors.

One of the main innovations in the line will also be a display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It will provide a clearer and smoother picture.

Journalists predict that versions of smartphones for different countries will be different. 4G versions will be sold on some territories and 5G versions on others.

5G versions will run on Snapdragon 865 processors with Snapdragon X55 modems and will be sold primarily in the United States. In the rest of the world, Samsung will sell devices using its own Exynos 990 processor.

The second smartphone with a flexible screen — this time a flip phone

According to numerous leaks, on February 11, Samsung will introduce another smartphone with a flexible screen. However, in its name, there will be no ‘Fold’ and it is unclear whether he will enter the main line as his predecessor. Journalists believe that the device will be called Bloom and will not bend along, but across — like a regular “flip phone”.

The reliability of these leaks can hardly be doubted. The company has officially confirmed the development of another smartphone with a flexible screen and even published concepts that match those of insiders.

In addition, at CES 2020, the company nevertheless reported on the sale of 400-500 thousand Galaxy Fold for the four months of 2019: this means that it has fulfilled the internal sales plan. According to the first images, the Fold successor also uses the same hinge technology as its predecessor — it has already proven its reliability on a larger device.

However, the main difference between Bloom will be the transition to flexible glass instead of the special polymer that Samsung used in the first Fold. The characteristics of the device are almost unknown. According to Bloomberg, it will receive the same camera as the top-end Galaxy S20 Ultra. The price of the device can also be reduced by more than half — up to $845 instead of two thousand: in this case, it will be the most affordable flexible smartphone on the market.

According to the Ajunews website, the device is positioned as a smartphone for girls, which will be convenient to hold with one hand. According to rumors, the head of Samsung Electronics, DJ Koch, told one of the partners that Bloom was created with an eye on the powder boxes of the French cosmetics brand Lancôme.

Probably worth the wait for the new version of the Galaxy Buds wireless headphones. According to insiders, they will not receive noise reduction. Innovations will be minor — longer battery life and improved connection. According to forecasts, the headphones will be called Galaxy Buds+.

In recent years, at the Unpacked presentation, Samsung also announced updates to the DeX dock. Perhaps you should wait for a new version of the device in 2020.
