The company abandons the function ‘to avoid misunderstandings.’

Instagram will refuse the ‘Subscriptions’ tab, which contains information about user activity — likes, comments, and new subscriptions. The function will disappear within a week. It is reported by BuzzFeed News.

For some users, the tab disappeared in August 2019. Now the company has confirmed that Subscriptions will disappear from everyone. After that, when you click on the heart at the bottom of the screen, only the actions associated with the user’s account will appear.

The company abandoned this feature in order to avoid misunderstandings. Instagram product manager Vishal Shah told the publication that many users did not know about the tab, and therefore did not use it. The Shah also argued for the decision by the desire of the social network to simplify the interface.

“People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing,” Shah said. “So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built it for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up.”

Instagram launched the Following tab in 2011. At that time, the page served as a way to search for new content, but now the Interesting tab performs this function. Through Following, users began to monitor the activity of their partners and friends.
