The company will transfer the presentation of new products online.
Google has canceled its main annual event – a conference for developers of Google I/O 2020, which was supposed to be held from May 12 to May 14. The company sent its statement to reporters. The reason for the cancellation was concerns over the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19.
It is about canceling the conference offline. The company plans to talk about Android and other products online: the details of the alternative format are still unknown.
Due to concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in accordance with health guidance from the CDC, WHO, and other health authorities, we have decided to cancel the physical Google I/O event at Shoreline Amphitheatre.from Google statement
Google promised to fully reimburse the participants and guests of the conference. Those who bought tickets for I/O-2020 will also be allowed to exchange them for tickets for I/O-2021.
The company also promised a total of one million dollars to various Mountain View (California) organizations hosting the conference to support small businesses and technical education.
Typically, Google talks on I/O about devices, changes in Android and various services, as well as new tools for developers. For example, in 2019, the company showed, among other things, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL.
Thus, Google for the first time canceled the I / O, which has been running since 2008. The conference was initially held in San Francisco, but then it was moved to the company’s new office. On average, approximately five thousand people attend each event.
Because of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, more and more different events are being canceled around the world. Among them — the largest technology exhibition, the World Mobile Congress-2020, which was supposed to be held in Barcelona from February 24 to 27.
