The French government has issued Apple a fine of 25 million euros. The reason is the slowdown of the old iPhone after the update.
Apple plans to release an official statement on this topic in the near future. But the company itself did not dispute the fine.
The main argument of the Directorate General of France for Competition, Consumption and Anti-Fraud is the fact that Apple did not warn about a possible problem when updating the operating system. In particular, the owners of the iPhone 6, SE and 7 faced a slowdown in the work of gadgets.
The prosecutor’s office launched an investigation in January 2018. This happened after complaints from users whose devices slowed down after upgrading to iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2. The named smartphone models after the update began to slow down in the cold or in other conditions.
Recall that in 2017, Apple admitted that it underestimates the processor frequencies of the iPhone. This is supposedly necessary in order to protect devices from unexpected shutdowns. This led to many lawsuits, and Apple had in 2018 to reduce the cost of replacing the battery from $79 to $29. Now the service costs $69.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted Apple’s iPhone sales decline in 2020. They say that the coronavirus epidemic will affect production and supply.
