The paintings of famous artists conceal a lot of secrets, which the authors themselves sometimes didn’t even think about.

Well, some points were made by them specially, for example — the use of old works for the second time, but already as a basis for new masterpieces. For a long time, these same “second layers” of known images are hidden under the layers of paint, until the researchers decide to check the pictures using X-ray fluorescence analysis. And sometimes the finds are really interesting!

Thus, American researchers used the method of X-ray fluorescence analysis to paint Pablo Picasso’s “Crouching Woman”

The results obtained showed that under the painting there is a canvas of another author, which Picasso used as a basis for his work.

The hidden picture was a landscape with the image of Barcelona, which Picasso skillfully transformed into a woman-beggar

With the help of X-ray fluorescence analysis, it is planned to study works by other artists who can also hide many secrets
