Lost among the sands …

The word ruins usually convey the shade of barely delineated brick walls and debris dating back hundreds, if not thousands of years.

However, the works of German artists Sabine Haubitz and Stefanie Zoche serve as powerful reminders that unfortunate events, especially economic ones, can easily create ruins at a much later time.

The Haubitz and Zoshe 2006 book “Sinai Hotels” vividly describes the projects of hotels in the Egyptian desert, which were started in good faith, but then, for unknown reasons, are abandoned.

In almost every case, investment projects led to the creation of a concrete foundation stuck in a desert landscape.
